CHAPERONE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Aid and assist the students while maintaining order and treating them with
respect.
Duties should
include but are not limited to:
I. Safety
A. Bus
1. Know where emergency exits are & how to operate
them.
2.
Keep the students seated while the bus
is in motion.
3. Monitor “couples” activities.
4.
Remain by the bus until all students
have departed.
B. Hotels
1. The buddy system will be
used at all times.
2.
Escort students to dinner and around town during free time.
3.
Monitor rooms on a rotating basis throughout the night.
C. Restaurants
1. Escort students to
approved eating establishments.
D. Event sites
1. The buddy system will be
used while on site.
2. Escort students to approved
offsite areas.
II.
Responsibilities
A. Arrive
at the school 1 hour before the buses depart.
B. Roll
Call/Head Count (done at time of Gear Check)
C. Equipment/Gear
1.
Make sure each student has loaded their instrument, is wearing their band shirt
& black socks, and have their shoes & gloves prior to boarding the bus. (Marching Band)
2.
Chaperones are encouraged to help take the pit instruments on and off the
field. (Instructions will be given regarding handling of the instruments.)
D. Positive
Encouragement
1.
Verbal abuse will not be tolerated. (Loud verbal directions are
acceptable.)
2. Cheerleading is encouraged.
3. Compliment the students on their
performances.
E.
Guidance
1.
Notify Band Director immediately of any rule infractions using 2-way radios if
necessary, before any action is taken (with the exception of imminent physical
harm to the chaperone or students).
2. Inappropriate physical contact is not permitted, i.e. grabbing or
hitting.
3.
Students can be reassigned to another bus if you know from past experience that
there is likely to be a problem. Contact
the Band Director to make the change before the trip starts.
4.
Students with several offenses may be assigned to the Band Director's bus until
further notice.
5.
Any issues will be addressed in a short meeting of the chaperones before
boarding the buses.
